Teens sitting around table to discuss College & Career Planning

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties has expanded its slate of services to help teens create plans for success after high school graduation including one-on-one coaching, scholarship assistance and educational workshops. The College & Career Planning program is open to all Sarasota County middle and high school students.

With support from Drs. Robert and Patricia Gussin, the organization’s College & Career Success Coach will assist teens through a variety of postsecondary prep activities such as leading SAT and ACT workshops; writing recommendation letters; scheduling campus visits and tours; and assisting parents and teens with filing financial aid and admission paperwork.

Plus, with support from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and in collaboration with Take Stock in Children, students can work alongside a trained professional to access the state-of-the-art Student Scholarship Management System (SSMS), which houses around 500 local, national and institutional scholarships valued at $60 million. Based on the student’s information, SSMS finds scholarships that the individual is eligible to receive. Once the scholarships are identified, the system will assist students by tracking deadlines and their progress toward application completion.
