Since establishing our partnership in 2017, IPG has provided thousands of youth in Sarasota, Venice, North Port and Arcadia with greater opportunities to help them succeed in school, develop critical life skills and explore career pathways.

In fact, IPG sought opportunities for its employees to be directly involved in our mission when we first developed our mutually-beneficial partnership.
“IPG is a successful company with a diverse and capable employee base. There is a concentration of talent that matches the instructional services provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs,” Greg says. “Being involved with activities outside our daily requirements allows our employees the opportunity to share those talents with young people wanting to understand if what they are learning in school will serve them beyond the classroom.”
In addition to IPG’s sponsorship support of our signature fundraising events, including our annual IPG Leadership Breakfast, the company also collects toys for Club families during the holidays, celebrates our teens’ achievements with ice cream socials and presents the Annual Rock the Boat Regatta.
The Annual Rock the Boat Regatta has quickly become one of our Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club members’ favorite summer traditions. The idea for this unique event sprung from a meeting between our Advancement team and IPG’s marketing team in 2017. We wanted to create a meaningful volunteer opportunity for IPG’s employees that merged our mission and their products. From there, the Annual Rock the Boat Regatta was born. The first year’s event featured 12 teams, including 50 employees from IPG and 200 Club members.
The teams spend weeks constructing boats solely using cardboard and a variety of IPG’s colored duct tape. By the end of the summer, each team picks two representatives to race their creations in the pool at the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club. Over the years, the event has grown and welcomed a team from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as another contender. Teams compete for first place in three categories including Most Creative, Fastest Boat and the prestigious title of Ultimate Rock the Boat Regatta Champion. The regatta also features a CEO Race. Greg took the medal for IPG in the 2017 and 2018 CEO Race while Sheriff Tom Knight took the 2019 honor.
“While defeating Boys & Girls Clubs’ President/CEO Bill Sadlo in the annual regatta is one of my favorite memories with the organization, it is their Club members’ stories of accomplishments that inspire me the most,” Greg says. “I really like the achievement story of a young man named Al-Muta. I recall he had to overcome tremendous adversity and food insecurity, but he persevered and made it through high school and then on to college with a full scholarship. He attributed his success to the Boys & Girls Clubs, which allowed him room to develop his work ethic, numerous coping mechanisms and his talent in front of people. To me, he represented the achievements of a system that can nurture and influence young boys and girls to success, and I was very impressed with him. I would be remiss if I did not say that it is enormously gratifying to see their Club members’ achievements and to celebrate them in all the fun events planned throughout the year.”
Greg sees Boys & Girls Clubs as a key partner for IPG’s employees to participate in creating a strong foundation of a vibrant community.
“The Boys & Girls Clubs is founded on the notion of the safety and the wellbeing of the children they are charged to look after. Some of these needs are extreme in nature and in many cases the Boys & Girls Clubs represents a safe harbor for children in genuine need,” he says. “It is a belief of mine that in order to build a better future, we must begin by supporting and influencing the next generation of young adults. This partnership is a chance for IPG to participate in the good work of mentorship, safety and structured programs.”
