Tax-Smart Ways to Build Great Futures

<- Go Back To News & Updates

Summer is a season of opportunity at Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. While school is out, Club members are spending their days learning new skills, exploring their interests, building friendships, and preparing for bright futures. The hallways are abuzz with all the hope, potential, and opportunity that our young people find within the Club.

And outside of the Club, summer is a great time for our supporters and partners to ensure that current and future generations have access to all of these opportunities.

One meaningful way to do that is through charitable giving. Whether you're making an annual gift or considering a new way to support the causes you care about, thoughtful planning can help your generosity go even further.

Some may be surprised to learn that some of the most effective ways to support local youth can also offer valuable tax benefits. By giving strategically, you may be able to maximize your impact while reducing certain taxes.

Why Consider Tax-Smart Giving

When you choose a tax-efficient giving strategy, more of your resources can go toward the causes you care about most. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, that means helping provide daily nutrition and programs focused on academic success, character & leadership, healthy habits, college & career preparation, and civic engagement.

The right giving strategy can benefit both your financial plans and the next generation of community leaders.

If you're considering a charitable gift, you don't have to navigate these options alone. Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties has partnered with FreeWill to offer free, secure resources that make it easy to learn about tax-smart giving strategies and explore the approach that works best for you.

Three Tax-Smart Ways to Give

Appreciated Stock Contributions

If you own stocks that have increased in value, donating those assets directly to a qualified nonprofit may allow you to avoid capital gains taxes while supporting a cause you care about.

This can often be more tax-efficient than selling the asset and donating the proceeds.

IRA Gifts

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA.

These gifts can help reduce taxable income and, for those subject to Required Minimum Distributions, may help satisfy those requirements while supporting local youth.

Grants from you Donor-Advised Fund

A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is one of the simplest ways to support charitable organizations. If you already have funds set aside for philanthropy, recommending a grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties can be a quick and meaningful way to put those charitable dollars to work.

Making the Most of Your Giving

Everyone’s financial situation is different, which is why it's important to consider the giving strategy that best aligns with your goals. By exploring your options now, you can make informed decisions that maximize both your charitable impact and potential tax advantages.

A secure online resource is available to help you learn more about stock gifts, IRA distributions, and Donor-Advised Fund grants.
