The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 Great Futures Academy School-Year Program, which will launch on August 9, 2021, at its six Club locations across Sarasota and DeSoto Counties.
After a year of adapting to virtual learning, we are excited to support our local schools as they open their doors to welcome students into the classroom for the fall. High school student, Ariyana E. who attends the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club stated, “We learned a lot through last year, even though difficulties of isolation, non-participation, and acclimating to safety protocols persisted. This year we can implement everything we learned from last year to create a more inclusive and safe school year going forward.” Students remain hopeful for what it means to be back not only in their classroom but back at their Clubs.
Great Futures Academy School-Year Program provides BGCSDC students, ages 6 to 18, with on-site support for students who opted into our afterschool activities designed to foster academic success, leadership development, and career exploration.
The Afterschool Support session provides students, ages 6 to 12, from different school locations, with a safe place to access youth development activities after the school day. It will feature educational, recreational, and developmental activities with youth development professionals that empower children to excel in school, become leaders, adopt healthy habits and plan for success after high school graduation. Snacks will be served to program participants at no additional cost. Busing is also available to the Clubs from select school locations.
BGCSDC is also offering a full slate of award-winning Teen Programs, including entrepreneurial training, leadership development, financial literacy, civic engagement, and workforce development. Middle and high school students are invited to apply here.
With the safety of the children and staff as the top priority, the capacity for each Club location was determined based upon CDC protocols and recommendations from local health professionals, as well as, transportation availability.
The daily capacity and monthly fees range amongst Club locations.
