THEATREMATTERS is partnership between the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties Robert & Joan Lee Club and Venice Theatre. The partnership offers children performance art education and is designed to develop each student’s individual talents and skills, as well as teach them to work together as a team, increase their problem-solving skills, and improve their presentation and communication skills.
Participants also learn about performing, as well as the technical aspects of theatre such as lighting, sets, sound, and costumes.
On Saturday April 19, 2016, 19 Boys & Girls Clubs members were able to show case their skills developed in the program. Members were able to express themselves through dance and song, perform skits, prepared monologues and executed a complete play written and directed by the members themselves. Even Boys & Girls Club staff member Mr. Devin Lyons from the Robert & Joan Lee Club had a part to play.
Parents, Siblings, Theatre and Club staff were amazed by these young individuals’ talent. We cannot wait to see what they are able to achieve next.
