Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties' 21st Century Community Learning Centers offer academic, artistic, and cultural enrichment opportunities to students and their families when school is not in session. Our programs nourish the mind as well as the body. We provide healthy snacks and warm inviting places conducive to opening the mind to the possibilities available through learning. Our centers provide students with a broad array of other activities – such as drug and violence prevention, counseling, art, music, recreation, technology, and character education programs. Our programs serve the families of participating students, by identifying the literacy needs of individual families and matching them with the appropriate program. Our goal is to provide opportunities for academic enrichment, including tutorial services to help students, particularly students who attend low-performing schools, to meet state academic standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and mathematics.
Virtual Programming
While our 21st CCLC Program sites were closed through April 15 in response to safety concerns over COVID-19, we offered virtual resources for our Club members that will help keep them engaged in exciting, educational activities and on track to achieve their full potential. During these weeks that our Clubs were closed, our team of dedicated youth development professionals were designing activities for youth to enjoy from the safety of their own homes. These activities targeted our key pillars of Academic Success, Character & Leadership Development, Healthy Lifestyles, and Workforce Readiness, and are available below.
